Hey Local Touch Senior Seniors! The World Masters Games are this year in Auckland, 21st-30th April 2017, and it includes Touch! Get a team together and enter now. In April 2017, 25,000 participants from more than 100 countries will touch down in Auckland for 10 days of sporting challenge and excitement. It will be the largest event staged in New Zealand across a decade, featuring 28 sports played across 48 competition venues, from stadiums and arenas to beaches and forests. For many, it represents the chance of a lifetime to compete on a world stage against sports peers. The Touch competition at the World Masters Games 2017, offers events for men’s, women’s and mixed teams across open and social grades in the age categories identified in the Sports Information Guide. The minimum age to participate in Touch is 27 for women and 30 for men. The WMG2017 Touch competition will take place at Bruce Pulman Park, and is provisionally scheduled to take place from 22 April to 25 April 2017. Please note, the cutoff date for new teams (subject to available competition capacity) is 3 March 2017. New athletes joining existing teams is available up to and including 31 March 2017, however a late fee may apply. For more information and to register, visit www.worldmastersgames2017.co.nz. NEWSFLASH!
All Thursday games will now be moving back to Becroft Park as of tomorrow - 17th November! Thursday Juniors, you are no longer playing at Hato Petera. You're game times/fields will be altered as there are only 6 fields at Becroft. We will be running 3.45, 4.15, 4.45, 5.15, 5.45 rounds. Draw will be updated before noon tomorrow. Thursday Seniors, you are no longer playing at Sunnynook. Draw unchanged. As at 1pm today Junior Touch is still on. Weather is settled, grounds are open. However, if extreme weather sets in closer to the 4pm start time, and we deem it unsafe for the children, we will put a cancellation notice on our Local Touch Facebook page, and on this Local Touch website.
• Unfortunately the Hato Petera grounds will not be ready to use this Thursday 3rd November for our Juniors, so for this week only, we are playing at McFetridge Park, Archers Road, Glenfield.
• Please see the field layout below. Notes: the field markings the council have done are for summer soccer and are narrower than touch fields. They are indicated in red below. We can use most of the line markings, however we will be coning the inside side-line to widen our fields. Our touch fields are indicated in white below, with cones in orange. TEAM GEAR
• Mon/Tue teams have been given, and Thu teams will be given their Local Touch gear tomorrow, which consists of: 6 x cones, 1 x ball, 1 x whistle, 1 x rule book, 3 lots of certificates. We are still awaiting drink bottle delivery. These will be distributed as soon as they arrive. • Re certificates: please could you let your Coaches/Managers know, that the Player of the Day and Great Effort certificates are to be awarded weekly. However, the Achievement Certificates are to be awarded at the end of the season (replaces the Participation Certificates from previous seasons). COACHING • We noticed last night at our Tuesday competition, a number of teams and coaches – obviously very new to the Sport of Touch - who weren’t aware of many of the rules. • Please could you let all your coaches know that there are resources and information on our website for them to use. Click here to go to the Coaching Page. This includes ‘Simplified Rules & Terminology of Touch’, ‘Local Touch Junior Rules & Regulations’, and ‘Local Touch Practical Guide for Coaches’ (which includes drills and skills). Rather than adjust draws and add an extra round early January, we've decided to leave grading week one as a cancelled round. Therefore please just follow the dates on the draws as they are. Next week's draws are below.
(FYI The first 3 weeks are just grading games so that we can assess teams, and put them in the best grade for the competition round (which is 10 weeks long). So all we’re doing is cutting one grading round out (so now just 2 weeks of grading)). Unfortunately the Council have closed the grounds this week (neglected to tell us for yesterday, so we snuck those games in!), so no Junior Year 1&2 games this afternoon at Sunnynook, no Senior games tonight at Sunnynook, no Junior games at Hato Petera on Thursday afternoon, and no Senior games on Thursday night at Sunnynook! We will adjust the draws to reflect new start dates.
The Tuesday Mens, Tuesday Mixed, and Thursday Mixed grading round draws are now available at www.localtouch.co.nz. Click the link on the Draws & Results page. Games begin next Tue 25th Oct and Thu 27th Oct.
